PAINTING IN PROGRESS ( week 2) - James Aponovich

MONTALCINO: STILL LIFE WITH GROUPINGS OF FLOWERS

'THE FRITTATA'

Montalcino: Still Life with Groupings of Flowers ( Painting in progress)
James Aponovich
oil on canvas, 40" x 52" ( subject to change)

'Frittata', it is what the Italians call 'a mess'. I am trying to build the
foundation of this painting with the three groupings.
The leaves are not burnt, it is an underpainting in earth reds.
It will give the greens  more vibrancy.

This vase is first painted in just whites to develop the shape. The cloth is
painted 'alla prima' or directly. ( without underpainting)

The white vase now with color and pattern begins to take some shape.

The Cloisonné vase has been drawn and underpainted.
I thought the snazzy red color would work, but now I am
trying to find  balance with the colors, so it might change.

Until next week.....
